The kind of world we are living in these days is best described as the new design era. The travel luggage industry has not been spared at all from chasing latest fashion trends.

If anything, the industry has been infiltrated, leaving designers with no choice except going an extra mile to keep abreast of trending ideas. To stay on top of the game, travel luggage manufacturers are continuously working to improve.

The fact that tastes in style and fashion can quickly change, has put a lot of pressure on travel luggage designers; keeping them on their toes to withstand competition from all angles.

As I was browsing through the travel news magazine, looking for updates in the travel luggage industry, the catchy headline, ‘Transparent Suitcase’ grabbed my attention. As the report states, an Australian travel luggage firm, Crumpler, has manufactured a latest transparent suitcase, the Vis-A-Vis clear suitcase.

The suitcase is made of clear polycarbonate and has black supports. Crumpler’s viewpoint is, “You have nothing to fear if you have nothing to hide.” However, I personally think, it all depends on individual choices and what the transparent suitcase will be used for.

While some people may think they would hate the idea of people seeing their belongings at the airport since it’s none anyone’s business. Crumpler spotted the advantages the transparent suitcase would bring to the traveler.

Firstly, Crumpler observes that the clear suitcase could potentially make it easier to go through security and prevent officials from rifling through your luggage. Secondly, the suitcase would offer people an exciting chance to express themselves through what they choose to display.

I know people may have different views about this transparent suitcase. Please feel free to share your thoughts or views and leave them below.

This is pretty cool. The first thing I thought of when I saw this was the same point you pointed out for security. Maybe it’ll speed up the TSA lines a bit (I wouldn’t hold my breath but hopefully it’s more than wishful thinking)? If it does, the sales for this might just blow up (no pun intended with TSA).

    Hi Femia
That is quite an interesting concept in the radical luggage designed by that Australian luggage firm Crumper – a transparent suitcase.

I note the comment by the person who created this very “different” looking luggage. He.she stated that “if a person has nothing to hide then he/she should not have to worry about some article of clothing packed away in the luggage was not meant to be seen”. Hmm really?

Just my two cents but I just don’t know if a lot of people are going to be interested in this type of luggage where everything packed inside can be seen by others.

People like their privacy, I definitely know that I do. The fact that anyone looking at your luggage as you wait in line to check it in at an airline’s desk simply would bother the person who owned it.

True he/she might genuinely have nothing to hide. But it’s just represents an invasion of privacy.

I also don’t believe that having this particular piece of luggage will deter TSA officials from getting into it anyway. To check for items which they feel are out of view and they just need to see everything.

I wouldn’t use this design of luggage even if it were given to me for free.

    Great article Femia!

Hi, Jeff, thank you for your interesting and thought provoking comments. I do agree with you. However, looking at the suitcase from a salesman perspective, I see it as a great tool for marketing. It gives an opportunity to advertise products to potential customers by displaying them.

Well, this is certainly a novel idea!

I’m genuinely struggling to think of a reason why I might buy a suitcase like this myself, but it would certainly appeal to some people that like to display their designer clothing and so on to the world at large.

I’d be concerned about theft by luggage handlers that would now be able to see what’s in the case – at least on the outside. At least now, you can “disguise” your content by using a shabby looking case; my belief is that theft is mainly from expensive looking cases right now or cases with famous names on them.

Now, if they could develop a case with colour changing properties, that would be something!

Is it possible that this is a publicity stunt in order to get the company’s other products more attention?

Hi Al, it maybe a publicity stunt. However, this transparent suitcase with dimensions: 68cm Width: 46.5 cm, Height: 68 cm, Depth: 25 cm, Weight: 4.55 kg is being sold for AU$745.00.

WOW! What an interesting concept coming Ng from Sydney I found it interesting that an Australian company thought of something so innovative – very proud 🙂

I agree it would more than likely make it much easier to get through security, especially nowadays.

my concerns are the same as others as I am not sure I would be comfortable with everyone being able to see what I have packed. But I guess the way around it would be to arrange your packing differently, with all your personal items in the middle and clothes around it.

I am looking for a small suitcase at the moment and this is certainly worth considering. How much does it weigh and what are the dimensions of this case.

    Many thanks

Hi there, I actually had a really crazy idea.

I am sure you may have heard of folks tampering into people’s luggage whilst it still is in transit.I think that with a transparent luggage, it may lessen the frequency of these tampering incidents as the contents may not look as attractive or inviting depending on how it’s packed.

Do you think I make sense or is my thought just a little wacky?

The next time I will be buying luggage, it’s going to be transparent one! Please keep us up to date when you will find out something new about this concept.
